Solar Module Considerations

Solar Modules come in many varieties. All of the modules we carry are high output mono and polycrystalline with a 25 year warranty. The things to look for in a module are:

1. Cost per watt
2. Warranty of 25 years
3. Output tolerance
4. CEC rating vs. STC rating
5. Availability

Each and every module has a tradeoff. For example, some modules have a guaranteed output of -0% while others have a guaranteed output of +-9%. The tighter tolerance would be a better buy if the cost per watt was the same and they were available. If you have a small roof, you may need to specify higher power density, higher output modules. In this situation, we recommend the Sanyo modules which are the highest output modules we carry. You can compare Sanyo to Sunpower or Sanyo to Kyocera and see how Sanyo, with our minus zero tolerance program outperforms both Sunpower and Kyocera.

If you have a larger roof, you may want to specify lower efficiency modules that have a lower cost per watt. Due to the overall complexity of the tradeoffs, we recommend that you call one of our Technical Representatives who can work with you on your specific application.
